Last week we looked at Jesus’ core teachings of love God & people, pour out & fill up, and unity with God and others. It’s simple, but not easy. I will spend the rest of my life working on it, which is part of what makes discipleship so compelling. The learning and growing never ends!!
Pouring out and filling up has been a topic at my family’s dinner table. Children naturally fill up more than pour out, so growing up means pouring out more and more. Parents naturally pour out more than fill up, but parents need to fill up just like Jesus, so they must find ways to fill up or they won’t be able to continue pouring out. We’ve been talking about what that looks like, maybe even setting some goals for ourselves.
This Sunday we’re going to get practical with pouring out and filling up, working towards better balance in our personal lives and the life of the church. It’s going to be practical and interesting, bring a friend. (Pro tip on inviting: start with someone you love and want the best for, “this Sunday at church we’re going to be looking at practical ways to live a more meaningful life. I’d love it if you came with me. You can sit with me and then afterwards let me take you to lunch/come over to my house for lunch.”)
Peace,
Pastor Mia
