It was a small boat and the waves were big. Too big. These are kind of swells that topple boats over and everyone drowns. They were terrified. Except that the Son of God was in the boat. He was not afraid. He had command of the winds and knew all would be fine.
So often we are like those ones in the boat, seeing the storm and feeling afraid. We’ve heard that God came to be with us in the flesh as Jesus the Christ. We’ve been told that Jesus said he would be with us always. But we have a mighty growth edge in trusting.
That is the call to faith. Trusting that Jesus is actually with us here and now. That faith isn’t just about being on the right side when death comes so we know the secret hand-shake into heaven, but that faith transforms the world right now. Faith transforms our lives. Storms no longer have power over us. As we let go of fear and the idols that hold us down, we are freed to HOPE.
