Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors

THIS WEEK Oct 10-16

In Worship This Week
Pastor Scott will be gone this next Sunday taking a few days off prior to attending three days of required meetings for the conference elders in Portland.  In his absence, Pastor Scott has asked our Sage District Lay Leader, Carla Anderson, to share in Sunday’s worship.  She will be preaching on Matthew 25:35 - 40 and her sermon title is “Be A Good Neighbor.”
Carla became a Certified Lay Servant in 2009 and felt a calling to pursue this further.  She completed the necessary training and was approved as a Certified Lay Minister in 2017.  Carla was elected as the Sage District Lay Leader in July 2018.  She and her husband, Forrest, live in the country in Emmett and share their peaceful life with one dog, two cats and many other critters.  She's blessed as an Auntie to 6 and Grantie to 11, and an active member of the Emmett United Methodist Church.

2018 Summit on Idaho Hunger - October 17
Held alternate years, the 2018 Summit on Idaho Hunger and Food Security – Nourishing Communities Together – brings together leaders from business, government, agriculture, non-profit agencies, schools, tribal organizations, faith communities, and Idahoans who have experienced hunger.  The summit provides an opportunity to gain increased awareness, discover best practices, and learn how to effectively make a difference.
Participants will hear from two keynote speakers, and will select one of six workshop tracks.  These workshops offer a way to dig deeper into the impact of hunger and lack of food security on particular populations in Idaho: seniors, immigrant families, or children.  Other workshop tracks include health partnerships, local food systems, and advocacy.
When:  October 17, 2108
Where:  Riverside Hotel, Boise
Time: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost for Early Bird registration (including lunch) is $75; a limited number of scholarships are available.
