Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors

THIS WEEK SEP 12-18

In Worship This Week
Sunday, September 16th, our worship will again focus on the Gospel of Mark, specifically Chapter 8:27-38.  Pastor Scott will be sharing the second part of a three part sermon series regarding reflecting upon our journey together as the Kuna Living Hope UMC congregation.  Last week we considered a menu, noting that it is what comes out of our heart, not what we feed ourselves, that defiles.  This Sunday we will explore our focus, considering where it is we think we are headed.
We’ve reserved a place for you.  Won’t you please join us?

Pastor Scott's Two Part Book Study "Fear of the Other"
Pastor Scott will be leading a two-part study on Bishop William H. Willimon's recent book "Fear of the Other."  Many have found this book to be controversial due to Bishop Willimon's strong criticism of the present administration.  Some have observed it is inappropriately biased while others claim it is an accurate lens through which we can see some dangerous trends.  Pastor Scott intends to take the middle of the road in his presentation, remaining neutral on the political criticisms while paying close attention to Willimon's identification of the underlying reasons for the acrimonious debates that have polarized our recent national discussions.  Study will take place at the Kuna United Methodist church on Wednesday, September 12th and Wednesday, September 19th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Special Notice - Revival Postponed
We just received word the Revival gathering scheduled for next Friday evening and Saturday, September 14-15th, has been postponed until spring.

SPRC Meeting
SPRC will be meeting Sunday September 16 at 11:45 in Pastor Scott's office.  Contact Ginny Greger if you have any questions.

2018 Summit on Idaho Hunger
Held alternate years, the 2018 Summit on Idaho Hunger and Food Security – Nourishing Communities Together – brings together leaders from business, government, agriculture, non-profit agencies, schools, tribal organizations, faith communities, and Idahoans who have experienced hunger.  The summit provides an opportunity to gain increased awareness, discover best practices, and learn how to effectively make a difference.
Participants will hear from two keynote speakers, and will select one of six workshop tracks.  These workshops offer a way to dig deeper into the impact of hunger and lack of food security on particular populations in Idaho: seniors, immigrant families, or children.  Other workshop tracks include health partnerships, local food systems, and advocacy.
When:  October 17, 2108
Where:  Riverside Hotel, Boise
Time: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost for Early Bird registration (including lunch) is $75; a limited number of scholarships are available.
