Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors

This Week Aug. 16 - 22

In Worship This Week
It's time for back to school blessings!  Come and celebrate knowledge and the opportunity to keep learning!  Students, teachers, administrators, support staff, substitutes, and anyone going back to school is invited to join us so we can offer them our blessings and prayers.  Please pass this invitation along and bring friends, neighbors, and grandkids with you to worship!
Read John 14:25-31 in anticipation of worship.

Race & The United Methodist Church
On Sunday, prompted by the hateful and tragic events in Charlottesville, VA, we remembered our baptismal promises and said a prayer of confession.  Here is some of what our denomination has to say about race and racism

Words of Joy!
There have not been any kiddos in the nursery since the Quinn's moved.  Nolan was the only child last Sunday but he wanted to hang out with his folks in church.  It's not much fun in the nursery if there aren't any kids to play with and I can be exhausting at times.  Also, I'll be looking for someone to interview this week.  Please get in touch with me if it's YOUR turn.   Thanks everyone!  Joy Haines

Opening Minds is a study group that meets Thursday mornings from 10 – 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.  We are open to exploring new ideas, challenging commonly held beliefs, and sharing our lives and our faith.

After a summer break, we will resume our schedule on Thursday, September 7.  The initial focus will be on pieces of the United Methodist Women’s study Living As a Covenant Community.  All are welcome.

Are YOU Ready? -- Info Sessions on Sunday, Aug. 27 @ 5:30 & 6:30 p.m.
This month we're feeding minds with disaster preparedness tips.  Join Becky Platt for information about how to prepare your home and family for an emergency and how to be ready to help neighbors (in our community or beyond) as needed.  Come for supper (served 5-7 p.m.) and stay to feed your mind, too!
Elements of Faith Catena
"Catena" is Latin for "chain."  Last Sunday, with the help of many volunteer readers and the congregation, we experienced a catena of many of the texts we've used throughout our summer worship series.  It was new, different, and fun to hear the scriptures differently as they were intertwined.  Thank you, readers!
