Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors

THIS WEEK APR 10-16, 2019

In Worship This Week
This Sunday we will celebrate Jesus’ triumphant ride into Jerusalem, standing with the crowds that lined the road waving palm branches and throwing their cloaks on the road.  This is an important moment for the Holy Week drama.  If we are hesitant about our excitement for the reality and potential of the coming of the kingdom, we will not be fully enabled to feel the loss and disappointment of the cross, nor the miraculous joy of the empty tomb.  Put on your party hat and join your congregation in offering praise.
Leadership Team Meeting
The Leadership Team will meet following Fellowship this Sunday, April 14, 2019.
The Case For Easter continues for the next two weeks
April 19th is Good Friday!

What do hunger activists need to do about housing?
Which is worse, to be hungry or to be homeless?  Ramen noodles might help that empty feeling, but as a steady diet they undermine a family’s nutrition.  And food pantries are only a supplement, at best.  Thus the housing issue becomes a hunger issue. The next public event from Idaho Interfaith Roundtable Against Hunger (IIRAH) will address this issue.
WHEN:              Thursday, April 25, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
WHERE:            Hillcrest Branch Library Auditorium, 5246 W. Overland Road, Boise
SPEAKER:        Erik Kingston, Housing Resources Coordinator,
                          Idaho Housing and Finance Association
Housing Emergency:  Causes, Costs, and Choices
RESPONSES:  Tenant Perspectives  - specific problems and possible solutions
The situation is urgent:  Over 50,000 Idaho households are counted as “extremely low income,” and for every 100 of these households statewide only 43 affordable rental units are available.  At low-to-middle income, the supply of affordable rentals is 68 per 100 households.
